LipSense by SeneGence Long Lasting Lip Colour in Roseberry Review

LipSense Lip System

I am always on a quest of finding long lasting lip colour because I usually tend to apply lipstick just once and I always forget to reapply. I’ve tried lots of different products and my favourite so far has been the Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm, but this still only lasted 3-4 hours and usually disappear with drinking and eating.

Come LipSense by SeneGence (a direct sales company) which claims to be a long-lasting lip colour,  waterproof, does not kiss-off, smear-off, rub-off or budge-off! I discovered this product by accident when I was going through my Facebook feed. I found a sales rep on Facebook and to get the lip colour I had to buy the set which consists of the Liquid Lip Colour, Moisturising Gloss and an Ooops Remover. The total set costs me AU $76 which is quite pricey but the individual lip colour costs AU $34 and the gloss is AU $26. I got the colour Roseberry which is a really nice pinky red colour.

I was a bit skeptical when I saw the claims… a lip colour that is long lasting, doesn’t smudge or rub off? Seriously? Does it really exist? So I guess you could say I was intrigued, so I went ahead and bought it!!I chose the colour Roseberry but I had so much trouble choosing the colour since there were so many to choose from. You can see all the colours on SeneGence website.

So now here are a bit more information about the product from the company website:

The Science Behind the Product
This unique product is waterproof and does not smear off, rub off, nor kiss off! And, just as important it does not dry out lips. In fact, it restores the moisture content of lips when used properly. LipSense liquid lip color can last anywhere between 4 and 18 hours. LipSense is a non-wax liquid lip color that stays on skin. LipSense provides a natural shield from the sun. The proprietary formulations and color pigments in LipSense help create a mechanical covering for the lips. That means the skin on lips is protected from the sun’s rays by the color pigments, therefore lips are protected from harmful rays. That is just one of the reasons lips become so smooth and soft wit consistent use of LipSense. LipSense should be applied in three layers:

• 1st layer – touches the skin’s pH and will begin to break down first and fastest.
• 2nd layer – protected from the bottom, away from the skin’s pH, by the first layer.
• 3rd layer – protects the second layer from the top down and prevents sheering of second layer of color by keeping away friction, saliva, and the natural environment.

The third layer breaks down just like the first layer, but from the top down. The second layer is sandwiched between the first and third and is protected by both for the longest period of use.

As you can see there are quite a bit of rules and instructions to follow in order to use this lipstick. I got a little card and also an email full of instructions that I have to follow to ensure I get the full long lasting-ness of the product.

As I mentioned above, I was quite skeptical, because not only this lip product is long lasting but it apparently also good for your lips and restore moisture content of your lips. I wanted to find out more so I looked into the ingredient of LipSense. This is the list of ingredients taken from SeneGence website:

SD Alcohol 40-B, Acrylates/Octylacrylamide Copolymer, Isostearyl Alcohol, Silica, Fragrance (Parfum), Water (Aqua), Paeonia Suffruticosa Root Extract, Hypericum Perforatum Extract, Tilia Cordata Flower Extract, Isodonis Japonicus Extract. May Contain: Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Bismuth Oxychloride (CI 77163), Ultramarines, Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140), Orange 5 (CI 45370), Red 33 Lake (CI 17200), Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090), Red 7 Lake (CI 15850), Red 28 Lake (CI 45410), Red 6 Lake (CI 15850), Red 27 Lake (CI 45410:2), Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Palmitic Acid, Methadone.

Most of these ingredients I have never heard of so I did a bit of research on each ingredients and input them into EWG’s Skin Deep Cosmetic Database. Skin Deep cosmetic database rates the ingredient as Low Hazard (1-2), Moderate Hazard (3-6) and High Hazard (7-10). Most of the ingredients was low hazard or on the low spectrum of moderate hazard (3/10). So it’s actually not too bad. Considering that one lipstick i’ve used (Rimmel Long Lasting Lipstick) was rated 6/10 on the cosmetics database, a score of 3/10 is actually pretty good.

LipSense Rosebery

So I’ve been using this lip colour now for the last 2 months, not continuously but often enough. Having used it quite regularly I can say with confidence it’s the most long lasting lip product I’ve ever used. On most days it lasted 7-8 hours. I was advised by the sales rep that I should reapply the gloss throughout the day as it will help make it last longer, but sometimes I forget. Here are some photos of me wearing the Roseberry lip sense.

Overall I do love this lip product. It’s a keeper as it is long-lasting. The sales rep told me that if I use it every day it should last for 6 months which I think is good value. One thing I notice though when I apply the lip colour I feel a burning / tingling sensation but it wasn’t unbearable or uncomfortable and it goes away within seconds. When you apply the first 3 layers of the lip colour you will feel that it is quite dry but once you apply the gloss it is fine. As long as the gloss is reapplied my lips was moisturised but it does get dry if I forget to wear the gloss. You can see this in the pictures above without the gloss.

What I love about it is that this lip colour is definitely budge proof and non transferrable. Even after drinking and eating the lip colour still lasts. Although if I had eaten food that are oily, it does come off a little bit.

With the Oops Remover – I actually found that I didn’t really need to use this. I have been using coconut oil to remove my makeup lately and this also works in removing the lip colour. So you can save a bit of money (AU $14) by not getting the oops remover.

Will I buy it again? Maybe… the only thing that puts me off is the price. Since you have to order I would also have to pay postage making the price of the lip colour on its own nearly AU $40. For now I might just stick with this one colour and decide later on if I will get some more.

xoxo, Ina

I love long lasting lipsticks you can apply once and then forget about but $40 is a bit expensive. I like Rimmel’s Provocalips.

Well said Ina. I discovered Lipsense the same way you did. Now I’m a distributor. May I share your blog link?

Just a thought on the price: my previous lip color lasted about a month before I had to go out and buy a new one. When I purchased LipSense, I used the same color for three months, daily, before signing up to be a distributor. At that point I weighed a new tube and the tube I’d been using for three months and the weight difference was only 2.1 grams, so you’re hardly using any at all. With the SD40 as an antimicrobial preservative, LipSense says their product is “good” for three years. So not only does it last long on wearing it your lips, but the product itself has some serious longevity. Thank you os much for posting this – I would love to share your blog and link on my Facebook page!
